Equipment

Lacrosse is a fact-paced, physical game. Having the proper equipment is critical to maximizing the enjoyment and safety of players. It is equally important that the equipment is sized correctly. The Canadian Lacrosse Association (CLA) and the Ontario Lacrosse Association (OLA) require that all players have and wear the following equipment:

- Lacrosse stick, sized as follows (measurements are for the total length):
- Peanut to PeeWee; 34" - 46"
- Bantam & Midget; 40" - 46"
- Helmet & full face mask* (CSA Approved)
- Mouth Guard*  (Custom fit mouth guards available - click here)
- Shoulder pads*
- Arm slash guards
- Back / kidney pads
- Gloves
- Athletic support & cup* (Baseball style is preferable)
- Shorts & T-shirt**
- Basketball or court shoes (high cuts are recommended)
- Water Bottle**
- Equipment bag**

IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR THE PAPERWEIGHT SOFT LACROSSE PROGRAM

Beginning in 2009, the Redbirds will run the Paperweight program as a 'soft' lacrosse program.  The focus will be on learning the basics of lacrosse.  Stick and cross checking will be taught beginning at the Tyke level.  The following equipment is required:

- helmet with cage and a mouthguard

- lacrosse stick & gloves

- Athletic support & cup* (Baseball style is preferable)
- Shorts & T-shirt**
- Basketball or court shoes (high cuts are recommended)

It is up to the parents whether or not they want to have their child wear volleyball style knee pads and shoulder pads.

Every House League player receives a very cool Redbirds team sweater to wear!

Items marked with an asterisk (*) are generally interchangeable with hockey equipment. Items marked with a double asterisk (**) are in addition to the CLA & OLA requirements. Lacrosse gloves are highly recommended over hockey gloves as they allow for greater flexibility and increased stick control.

The Club supplies goalie equipment for House League teams. Players that want to play goal will need to have their own helmet & face mask, mouth guard, athletic support & cup, shorts & t-shirt and running shoes. Parents are required to ensure that Players are properly equipped for every game and practice. Team Coaches are available for advice on equipment and its proper adjustment. If you have any questions, please contact us at info@redbirdslacrosse.com.

Lacrosse equipment is available at Rec Cycle & Sports in Aurora (ask for your Redbirds 20% discount) and National Sports in Newmarket.
